Valencia

Portrait photography has caught my attention for the longest time, and I love to ask my friends and family to pose for the camera with me behind it. It creates this magical feeling of letting the person see themselves the way I do them, bringing a deeper layer of understanding between us.

Valencia and I have known each other since she first moved to Singapore. Funnily enough, this shoot was the first time we collaborated together. We had gone to East Coast Park intending to photograph during the golden hour, which did not pan out as expected due to weather reasons. However, I had just bought the 135mm lens a few days prior to the shoot and was very keen on trying it out.

When the results were sent from the film development lab, I screamed (with excitement) and called Valencia. We had both not expected the result we got back; our initial expectations were slashed from the uncontrollable less-than-desirable situation we found ourselves in on the beach that day. I guess, when you expect nothing, you won't be disappointed? In our case, it has worked out for the better!
